Towards the end of World War II, Playmate Gwen Wong was born in Manila, Philippines before her mother, Doreen Wong, scooped her up and headed to Sydney, Australia beginning her global childhood. “My mother was a radio announcer during the war and also a pianist who worked in nightclubs all over the Orient, Australia and the U.S. We moved from Manila to Sydney and then to the U.S. when I was seven,” she explains. First moving to San Francisco was quite a change for the exotic beauty with the jet-black hair, but she felt right at home after heading south to Los Angeles. “Beverly Hills is a great place to visit and an even better place to live. Both the Southern California climate and the people just couldn’t be any nicer,” says our all-natural Playmate of the Month before adding she still isn’t used to the rainy days though. “They depress me.” To shake off the rainy day blues, our Asian Miss April 1967 will either paint or head over to her extraordinary collection of cookbooks where she’ll pick a recipe and create some edible art. “Cooking has almost become a mania with me. I collect cookbooks the same way people collect LPs,” adds Gwen who often draws flavor inspiration from her exotic background. “I’m a mix of six nationalities: Chinese, Filipino, Irish, Scottish, Spanish and Australian. But, since I’ve become a Bunny, my life has become very hectic and I don't do nearly enough activities.” Working at the Playboy Club in Los Angeles has filled up our Miss April 1967’s calendar indeed, but unlike her fellow Bunnies, Gwen doesn’t aspire to act, sing or model for anyone other than Playboy. “I'll admit it—I'd like to get married. I want to have a home with a family,” she says. “I have the perfect date already planned out. I’d arrange flowers and put them all over the house. I'll do the cooking—French or Chinese food, probably, and perhaps afterward a film. But, the important thing is to be with a man with whom I can relax and enjoy myself by being myself.” Gwen’s expertise for all things French goes beyond the kitchen. Her French love affair began when she studied French artists and artwork at El Camino Junior College and knew she and her friend had to go to France on a girls’ trip. “I won't be staying in Europe for more than a month, so I'll probably spend most of my time in the city that fascinates me the most: Paris,” says our giddy Playmate. “I also plan to visit France's wine districts while I'm there.” Enjoy la belle vie, Gwen Wong.
