“The job is a learning experience,” says Martha Thomsen, a sexy flight attendant and Playboy model. Before she began jet setting around the globe for work, Martha was just a shy country girl from Moses Lake, WA whose primary focus was school. When we met the Washington State University coed in 1978 for our Girls of the Pac pictorial, we couldn’t believe how gorgeous Martha was—she’s a tall blonde with an all-natural, C-cup bust. However, we were equally surprised to learn how timid she was—we had to photograph her with long sleeves on. Two years later and a lot has changed. Martha traded in quiet Moses Lake for the busy streets of New York and when she made the choice to pose for Playboy again, the long sleeves were long gone. “I’m a person of extremes. I’m caught between the romantic and the bizarre. I love things that are not necessary,” says our Miss May 1980. “Instead of going to the Beef and Brew for a hamburger, I like to go to the Palm Court for champagne and strawberries. I like the night life. I don’t go in for your basic ‘sit down and watch’ type of activities.” Never the one to sit in the background of life, Martha has been allowing her career as a flight attendant and her new home of New York to transform her into the lively woman we see today. “I came to New York straight out of training class. They had to push us off the plane. We were clutching our purses, looking for muggers. Now I love the city. New York is pure entertainment,” explains our Playmate of the Month. “The best thing about growing up in the country as a kid was just being turned loose. I remember hot summer days, sitting on a picnic table in the sun, licking Popsicle sticks with other kids. New York is different. It’s a great place for grown-up kids.” Even though Miss Thomsen is enjoying her time in the big city being a rambunctious grown-up kid, she doesn’t plan on making New York her forever home. “My ambition is to independently wealthy and buy a ranch where I can raise lots of horses and dogs,” explains Martha. You could take the country girl out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of the girl.
