Playboy happily achieved a first with the winner of Cybergirl of the Month for August 2002. Tila Nguyen was Playboy’s first Asian CGOM, not to mention an up-and-coming star. Petite at five feet tall, Miss Nguyen was born in Singapore and is of French-Vietnamese decent. Tila – also known as Tila Tequila – was made to be a celeb, but her rise to fame was not easy. The feisty blonde-haired woman grew up a wild tomboy-turned-gang member. Eventually, Miss Nguyen changed her ways, and that’s when Playboy discovered her at a mall in Texas. “I am a very misunderstood person who has a very dark side as well as a bright side,” says Tila. “I can be either your friend or your foe. That’s your call.” Millions chose to be Tila’s friend – 4 million on MySpace, to be exact – making her the most popular person on the social media site in 2006. Her MySpace popularity got the attention of MTV executives, who launched her reality television career with the dating show A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. The reality show was a first – focused on Tila’s bisexuality, men and women alike competed for her affection. The following year, Tila saddled up for a second chance at love with A Shot at Love II. The tattooed hazel-eyed beauty has since given up on finding love on television, and has gone on to focus on her ultimate goal – her career. Tila has released two EPs and appeared in movies, like Adam Sandler’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. “All in all, I’m just me and I don’t care much for how others perceive me,” says Tila.
