Choosing Playboy’s 20th Anniversary Playmate was a difficult, yet sexy task that involved going through heaps of photos and attending casting calls filled with lovely ladies. Choosing one seemed daunting until we came across the photos of a tall brunette with a naturally, voluptuous figure from a small-town in Pennsylvania. Instantly, Nancy Cameron was chosen to be our 20th Anniversary Playmate and the timing couldn’t have been better for our Miss January 1974—her 20th birthday was around the corner. “Of course, I’m flattered to have been chosen to be Playboy’s first double-gatefold Playmate too,” gushes our Playmate of the Month with her blue eyes filled of glee. “But, poor Dwight Hooker, the photographer, must have lost ten pounds running from one camera to the other.” Nancy knew she made it as a professional model when she finally saw her centerfold on the pages of Playboy magazine –she’s come a long way since leaving Arnold, PA. “I had been working as a dental assistant for several months—in Arnold. That was a drag. I had been modeling, too, just for the sake of doing something different. I model two or three times a week; there's not a whole lot of that kind of work in Pittsburgh. Anyway, one day I was on a job at a shopping center, promoting a modeling agency; Paul passed by and we met,” recalls Nancy of how she first met her boyfriend. “Since then, I've done things I'd never thought I'd ever be doing, met people I'd never thought I'd meet, had experiences I'd never thought I'd have.” Working for her boyfriend Paul, a rock concert producer, Nancy has been able to meet famous musicians when they come to Pittsburgh to perform. “Somebody was throwing a party for Alice after the concert and Paul wanted me to go, but I told him I was tired and we argued about it,” recalls the all-natural brunette. “So, I'm sitting home alone when the phone rings and there's a man on the other end of the line saying, ‘Hello, Nancy. This is Alice.’ And I hear Paul laughing on the line like it was some big joke. But, Alice was really quite nice. He straightened everything out between us.” Nancy paused to replay what she just said in her mind and quickly scooted down to the edge of her seat and added, “I don't mean to give the impression that I'm a close friend of every rock star who passes through Pittsburgh. I don't even like to show up at the concerts. But, if I hadn't met Paul, I never would have had the opportunity to go in the first place.” If our humble Miss January 1974 hadn’t made the 20 mile move to Pittsburgh, her life would have been drastically different. Her days in Arnold were occupied roaming the woods and practicing her gymnastics routine with her gymnast sister and their Slovakian gymnastics coach, their mother. “I'd probably have gotten married—to my very old-fashioned high school sweetheart—and most likely have settled for a career as a dental assistant,” claims Nancy. “I'd rather spend of my time modeling.” From being our 20th Anniversary Playmate to acting on television shows like Charlie’s Angels and Fantasy Island, the big city has been kind to our Miss January 1974, but she refuses to call herself ‘a city girl.’ “In spite of the fact that I’ve moved away from my hometown, I still don’t consider myself a big-city person. I like the restaurants, concerts and people of the city, but I’ve found that I’m happiest when I’m walking through the woods or driving through the countryside,” says Nancy. “I guess my ideal in life is to combine the two worlds. But, I’ve lots of time to work that out.” Until that time comes, Nancy Cameron will continue to bless the world with her beauty as Playboy’s 20th Anniversary Playmate.
