“Growing up in Maryland, I was kind of a loner and I spent most of my time with horses. I took track horses that weren't very good at racing and retrained them as competition horses,” explains Julie Peterson in her naturally deep and husky voice. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed Julie was first featured in Playboy’s Women of Alaska pictorial in February 1986. Miss Peterson was born and raised in Maryland, but the age of 16 year, her parents divorced and Julie made the decision to follow her mother to the snow-covered state. “My mom moved to Juneau. After my graduation from Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, Maryland, I moved to Alaska to live with her,” says tall Miss February 1987. “For the first time in my life, I was away from horses and had no place to channel that energy.” Moving from Maryland to Alaska wasn’t an easy decision—Miss Peterson had to give up her hobbies, her best friends and she had to be away from her father. But, the voluptuous model is a strong woman and she vowed to make her new home state work for her. “I began to love the people of Alaska. The state offers so many opportunities that the people there always have an attitude of ‘try it, go for it, whatever it is,’” explains Julie. She found herself a new passion—skiing, and tranquility that comes with living in the northern state –and the Alaskan fellas are a little too proud to have her for a neighbor. “A guy I met at the gym told me that he'd seen me working out there one afternoon and immediately bought a gym membership,” laughs our Playmate of the Month. “Then he didn't see me again for several months and he was thinking of suing the gym for false advertising.” Today, Miss Peterson is far too busy to keep a rigorous gym schedule—she’s a successful chiropractor, Miss February 1987 and a member of Mensa. It’s safe to say Julie has done quite well for herself.
