Laura Richmond’s fascination with bunnies started way before she ever considered posing for Playboy. The writerly Texan had moved to Los Angeles to study English at Occidental College, and suddenly, bunnies started to invade her life. “A couple of years ago, my best friend and I started using bunny to describe everyone—‘dumb bunny,’ ‘fashion bunny,’ etc.,” explains the petite redhead. “Friends gave me Rabbit Head pins, clothes, cigarette lighters—everything. Which led me to wonder what it would be like to pose for Playboy.” Wondering quickly turned to doing, as the bunny-obsessed writer Laura became a Playboy bunny 1988—the best year of her life. “Writing may be a silent way to get results, but so far, it has gotten me an internship with a London rock-and-roll magazine, a long-distance love affair and my current gig as Miss September,” says the fair-skinned Playmate. As if that weren’t impressive enough, the do-it-all Miss Richmond also has her eye on a place in the spotlight. “People used to tell me I should try my hand at acting. I thought, ‘what a cliché,’” she says. “But Torture Chorus, a Hollywood performance-art troupe, has challenged me.” To Laura’s surprise, her author’s imagination served her very well on the stage. “I spend a lot of time writing, emptying my head into my journal,” she explains. “Writing is like sex—fantasies can make it better. On stage, in my journal or in bed, I tap into my fantasies.” As for a star on the Walk of Fame, that’s a ways off, but our Miss September 1988 is ready for anything and everything the silver screen has to offer her. “Redheads are tortured as children, therefore deserving of all Hollywood pleasures,” she jokes. From Playboy to Hollywood and beyond, audiences everywhere are enamored of Laura Richmond.
